Are you truly ready to quit smoking? The fact that you’re looking for a proven method for quitting and reading this means you may very well be, and that is the most important factor in success.
Why Do You Smoke?
There are probably as many underlying reasons for why people smoke as there are smokers, but a big piece of the puzzle is often a slight addiction. Research suggests that smokers get a fresh dose of nicotine in their brains within seven seconds of lighting a cigarette.
Yet, just as nicotine is quick to enter the system, it is also quick to leave. Some studies have shown that nicotine levels in a smoker’s bloodstream are cut in half within 30 minutes of putting out a cigarette. Within eight hours of quitting, your blood will be about 97% nicotine-free, and you’ll be 100% clean within three days.
Understanding the Addiction to Smoking
However, experts report that addiction to cigarettes is only 1% physical, that is, the addiction to nicotine; the other 99% is mental. The facts seem to support this view. Most smokers don’t find it difficult to sleep through the night without having to get up for a cigarette every couple of hours. If the addiction to nicotine was as strong as some might suggest, that wouldn’t be the case; your body would force you to feed it nicotine at all hours of the day. Furthermore, many people give up cigarettes “cold turkey” and don’t go mad. Sure, there may be some minor discomfort for a few hours or even days, but it’s not usually unbearable.
So, if the addiction is more mental than physical, it stands to reason that working on your mind in an effort to quit smoking is the right answer, and that’s where hypnosis can help. While hypnosis is not a miracle cure for quitting smoking, and there are no guarantees, it has been proven effective by literally millions of long-time smokers. If it has worked for them, it can work for you.
