Efficacy of Hypnotherapy

Data research and pen

To better understand the effectiveness of various therapy types, research conducted by Alfred A. Barrios, PhD, is worth considering. Findings from a study Barrios performed were revealed in an article titled “Hypnotherapy: A reappraisal,” which was published in the journal Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice. His analysis showed the following recovery rates:

Hypnotherapy. 93% recovery after 6 sessions
Behavior Therapy. 72% recovery after 22 sessions
Psychoanalysis. 38% recovery after 600 sessions

Although Barrios’ research on the efficacy of hypnotherapy was conducted many years ago, it is still relevant today. While the average recovery using hypnotherapy was 6 sessions for 93% recovery in Barrios’ study, we have found that most of our clients completely work through an entire issue in less time—usually within about 3–4 sessions. We have found that with at least 3 sessions we are able to access and resolve the root of an issue, which usually transforms clients in every facet of their lives. Of course, some issues require more sessions than others, and often clients are dealing with more than one issue and choose to continue working with us on other problems even after the issue that first brought them to our practice is resolved. In any case, you are welcome to schedule an appointment anytime you have a problem you would like to address.

Studies on the efficacy of hypnotherapy have consistently shown it to be effective in many applications…

Research on Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Research has shown that hypnosis is particularly beneficial in treating anxiety as well as the issues that people develop in response to their anxiety. These may include fears, such as of public speaking, flying, and test taking, as well as phobias to needles, animals, or other anxiety-provoking stimuli. Generally, people become fearful of the stimuli as well as their somatic reaction to it. Our method works by altering the way one views the fear, while calming a person’s reaction to that fear.
